Frederick (Fred) Jones (c1885–1966) was a New Zealand Member of Parliament and the Defence Minister during WW2.

Fred Jones was the Member of Parliament for two Dunedin seats: Dunedin South from 1931 to 1946, and then St Kilda from 1946 to 1951, when he was defeated.(Wilson, p. 209)
He was Minister of Defence from 1935 to 1949, and Postmaster-General between 1935 and 1940 in the First Labour Government.
He was a member of the Dunedin City Council (1933–37; 1950–58), and was Deputy Mayor of Dunedin 1935-37 and 1953-56.
Prior to entering Parliament, Jones was a bootmaker and trade unionist. Later he was the High Commissioner to Australia 1958-1960.
